A True Pioneer in Law Enforcement
Jodi Ann Miller, affectionately known as “Mimi” by her loved ones, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 16, 2024, at her home in Kewanna, Indiana. She was 65 years old.
Born in Gibson City, Illinois, and raised in a family of strong values, Jodi’s life was defined by service, integrity, and a deep commitment to her community. A proud graduate of Todd County Central High School in Elkton, Kentucky, class of 1979, Jodi embarked on a groundbreaking career in law enforcement.
She began as a dispatcher in 1980, eventually rising through the ranks to become Chief of Police in Rochester, Indiana (2008–2012)—a rare achievement for women in the field, especially during that time. Her return to dispatch work and later role as matron of the Fulton County Jail (2016) demonstrated her dedication to public safety and mentoring younger officers.
Known as the department’s “Mother Hen,” Jodi was a beacon of wisdom and support for colleagues across the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department, 911 Communications, and Rochester City PD.
A Life Beyond the Badge
Outside of her uniform, Jodi was an adventurer at heart. She cherished ski trips in Colorado and Montana, trail riding on horseback, and peaceful mornings with coffee and Candy Crush. Her passion for card games, especially euchre, made her a favorite at family gatherings.
She adored Chris Stapleton concerts, road trips, and time spent with loved ones—particularly her grandson Brodi and great-granddaughter Xena, whom she frequently visited in Kentucky.
Her family fondly remembers her culinary signature: the best cherry fluff ever made.
